Nothing can be more frustrating than weathering the challenges facing biosolids recycling. Political, regulatory and public pressure have increased in recent years, and agencies and companies looking for sustainable solutions are starting to move toward biosolids products like pellets and compost. However, this shift to 'product' based solutions brings new challenges: increased development costs (and the concomitant increase in disposal/reuse fees), facility permitting costs and uncertainties, public and political acceptance, and financing requirements. Overcoming these challenges requires a unified commitment by all of the participants to do what it takes to better the industry.
