Abstract:

Spokane County, Washington must substantially increase treatment capacity by 2009 to accommodate growth and facilitate completion of an aggressive septic tank abatement program. To meet capacity requirements and to protect water quality in the Spokane River, the County has proposed to implement a new 12-mgd membrane bioreactor (MBR) facility that incorporates nitrification/denitrification, chemical phosphorus removal and UV disinfection. The plant would be among the most advanced municipal wastewater facility in the State of Washington and would produce the effluent quality listed in Table 1 during the critical summer permitting season.
