SUMMARY There are many variables on a BFP so it is important for the operator to understand each as well as understanding the impact of changing one variable on performance of another variable. Performance on a BFP will change over time. It is essential for the operator
to keep up with it and to identify reason for changes. Changes can be correlated with plant performance and chemicals, such as those for chemical phosphorus removal. It is also essential to keep good records to recognize changing conditions as well as when parts of the BFP need repair. The
BFP is a long-term, reliable dewatering device, many of which have been in service for 20 years and longer. Therefore, it is important to purchase high quality BFPs with appropriate corrosion protection and rigidity.
