FARM OWNERSHIP FOR DEDICATED BIOSOLIDS LAND APPLICATION
Abstract:As part of its biosolids management program, the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District (District) purchased farm property, the METROGRO Farm, for the dedicated land application of biosolids and crop production. This paper will describe the significant farm ownership issues the District has confronted, and their associated costs in management efforts and dollars. In addition to routine land application operations there are property-related political and legal obligations from both inside and outside the property boundaries to be anticipated for planning, staffing and budgeting purposes. Listening and responding to the public's concerns, cooperation and collaboration on studies and projects, and implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) for continual improvement and comprehensive management are some of the components utilized for a successful, viable and sustainable METROGRO Farm biosolids management program.
