Abstract:

A practical conservative approach for designing primary clarifiers has been developed. The approach accounts for the settling behavior of the primary influent suspended solids and maximum loading conditions. By using such an approach design engineers will be able to develop design performance curves. These curves can be used to quantify the effect of primary clarifiers on the performance of the downstream liquid and solids processing units at different loading rates and help design engineers select the optimal size and number of primary clarifiers.
