Odor produced within two wastewater force mains is being effectively eliminated by small oxygen generators.

Enriched oxygen is injected and dissolved directly within wastewater force mains, creating a highly efficient oxygen transfer rate. Liquid pressure within the force mains allows five times more oxygen to be dissolved into the wastewater compared to what normally would be dissolved at normal ambient pressures. In addition, by using “enriched” oxygen, the enriched oxygen is five times more pure than oxygen in normal air. By using purified oxygen that is five times richer than air, and by using water pressure that is five times greater than ambient pressures, extraordinary efficiencies are achieved.

Case studies of two locations have proven that “purified oxygen injection” is safe, effective and economical.

Charting the reduction of hydrogen sulfide gas graphically demonstrates the effectiveness of this method. Photographs depict the damage that occurred to ductile iron force mains prior to installation of the oxygen systems. Customer complaint histories document customer complaints received regarding odors from the two locations prior to installation of these systems, and these same records indicate the total elimination of these odor complaints after the installation.

Over two years of continuous operation at two locations has proven that the reliability of the oxygen generator units is very high.

Operating costs are much lower than the previous use of chemicals, such as bioxide. And, the overall effectiveness of this method has proven to be far better than the use of other tried chemical odor control agents.
