APPLICATION OF HYDRAULIC MODELING TO HEADWORKS DESIGN
Abstract:In order to address grit accumulation and distribution problems in the headworks of their 14.5 m3/sec wastewater treatment plant in Newark, New Jersey, USA, Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners commissioned a study of their headworks hydraulics. Part of that study included computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and physical modeling of the headworks. The objectives of the modeling were to (1) ascertain the causes of the grit deposition and distribution problems and (2) develop solutions to those problems.
