A biological simulation model, BioWin™ v 2.1, was used to evaluate the calibration requirements of three enhanced biological phosphorus facilities operating with the Virginia Initiative Plant (VIP) Process. Information, including uptake-release tests and phosphate profiles, was collected at each facility during an intensive sampling period as part of the ongoing WERF “Biological Phosphorous Survey and Investigation” (Stephens et al., 2003-4) project. This information was then used with BioWin™ to calibrate the plant performance by varying key kinetic and stoichiometric constants in both batch and plant models. Table 1 summarizes the results of the calibrations for each facility.
