GETTING OUT FROM UNDER THE REGULATORY MICROSCOPE
Abstract:Lockheed Martin Aeronautics-Fort Worth (LM Aero-FW) adopted a zero discharge goal in the eighties because it made good business sense. To work toward zero discharge, wastewater discharges were examined and investigated to identify all sources of discharge to five direct discharge outfalls that discharged to streams and a lake used as a City of Fort Worth water supply. Projects were implemented that eliminated all discharges except storm water. As a result, LM Aero-Fort Worth has reduced its noncompliance risks and was able to replace its direct discharge National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) permits that required daily monitoring and analysis with a Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) for Industrial Storm Water.
