The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's (MMSD) Central Metropolitan Interceptor Sewer (MIS) consists of a network of approximately 37 miles of interceptor sewers located within the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The ages of the sewers in the system extend up to 110 years. MMSD undertook a major study of the system in order to ascertain its current structural condition, identify operational challenges, and evaluate hydraulic performances. The objectives of the investigations were to identify the rehabilitation or other improvements required to achieve fifty-years of additional service life for the Central MIS and to optimize its performance over this period.
