	abstract = "This presentation explores the vital topic of Leadership. It is presented in typical lecture format, but with several interactive / conversational segments so that the author leads the group through a discussion of various aspects of the topic. The author is a seasoned utility executive with 25 years experience in municipal utility service, and the topic is approached through that perspective.<P></P>The author relies upon a balance of both classic academic studies and currently popular business literature for source material. Additional examples are drawn for the author&#39;s personal experience. The context of the presentation is one of self-assessment and improvement, thus providing a primer for how attendees may strengthen their own Leadership skills.<P></P>The attendee will first learn the difference between Management and Leadership. Management is a science, dedicated to efficiency, relying upon authority. Leadership is an art, dedicated to effectiveness, relying upon inspiration. The discussion will then explore the most common characteristics and behaviors of Leaders. It concludes with an insightful discussion of what attendees can do to strengthen and improve their individual Leadership potential.<P></P>Given the technical nature of the water and sewer utility business, it is fair to assume that most attendees will have progressed to their current position through a progression of assignments originating in operations. Consequently, these attendees may not have a strong understanding of such &#8220;soft&#8221; humanistic topics. This presentation will help the attendee to develop a better awareness of the qualities and requirements of Leadership, and thus, ultimately allow them to strengthen their own Leadership attributes and potential.",
