	abstract = "When the City of Los Angeles and the Orange County Sanitation District signed up to be a demonstration agency with the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP) we were excited and ready to develop and implement a Biosolids Environmental Management System (EMS), especially after the bans and public outrage that we encountered over the past few years. The process began, and for approximately 18 to 24 months, we worked diligently to prepare our EMS manuals and document conformance with the NBP EMS Element requirements. Once our agencies had implemented our respective EMS for at least six months, the next step was to have our systems verified by an independent third party. Is the third party audit a process for continual improvements or a death sentence for the agency? This paper will give you a perspective from two agencies that have gone through the audit process, received certification, and have been admitted into the NBP EMS program.",
