PLANNING FOR BIOSOLIDS REUSE A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL ALTERNATIVES
Abstract:The City of Santa Barbara undertook a two-pronged approach to evaluating alternatives for biosolids management. The first prong is the evaluation of on-site treatment technologies. This evaluation is aimed primarily and ensuring that the City continues to have an alternative for management of its biosolids. The second prong was the development of a comprehensive regional study to evaluate biosolids management alternatives for treatment plants within the County. This approach attempts to identify the optimal management options for the County, with an emphasis on producing a product that can be locally marketed and reused. The regional planning effort is part of a larger effort by the cities and agencies in Santa Barbara County to develop a comprehensive waste management plan.
