Abstract:

For utility managers, sustainability is often viewed as a trade-off between long-term and short-term planning with unfavorable budget impacts. However, utilities are finding that there are creative opportunities to utilize sustainability concepts to improve their bottom line from the moment of implementation. We begin with an explanation of basic sustainability concepts, and then present examples of two sustainability programs that yield big-dollar benefits.
