CMU was faced with a challenge related to the renewal of the MCWWMF's effluent permit. The challenge sought to reduce the amount of phosphorus discharged by CMU's wastewater treatment plants into the Catawba River. It was determined that the most cost effective means of reducing phosphorus discharges was to implement the reduction at the MCWWMF, CMU's largest plant. CEPT combined with EBPR was employed in the plant upgrade as the technology by which effluent phosphorus could be reduced to the new effluent requirement of 1 milligram per liter (mg/L) at design flows with minimum facility additions.", pages = "337-347", url = "http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/wef/wefproc/2003/00002003/00000005/art00029", doi = "doi:10.2175/193864703784607115" }
