Abstract:

Research on membrane technologies and processes to treat municipal and industrial wastewater, produce water for subsequent use (reclaimed water), for solid / liquid separation (dewatering of sludge or biosolids), and other applications sponsored by the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) has increased over the past five years as the industry began focusing more attention on this technology, developing more costeffective, robust, and reliable membranes. WERF has 11 completed and ongoing research projects valued at over 2.7 million in this area. Additional research needs have also been identified for the near and long-term future by WERF Subscribers and from our current research. This paper provides an overview of WERF, highlights from selected ongoing or recently completed projects, and potential areas for future research.
