Abstract:

This paper will describe the activities undertaken by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) to develop an in-City biosolids use program. The paper will provide a historical perspective of early planning, political and regulatory obstacles that were met and overcome, and examples of biosolids use in the City. The paper will also describe efforts undertaken by the NYC DEP to improve the quality of biosolids. Finally, the paper will describe ongoing in-City use projects.
