STEAM STRIPPING FOR COMPLIANCE WITH USEPA PHARMACEUTICAL EFFLUENT GUIDELINES", journal = "Proceedings of the Water Environment Federation", volume = "2002", number = "15", year = "2002", abstract = "In order to select the best technology for compliance with the USEPA's Pharmaceutical Effluent Guidelines (PEG) and Pretreatment Standards, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Wyeth) and Parsons Corporation (Parsons) conducted pilot studies to compare advanced oxidation (UV/peroxide) and steam stripping for wastewater treatment at one of Wyeth's largest solid dosage form pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in the US. Both technologies were found to be technically feasible for the treatment of this wastewater. When infrastructure build-out and annual operations and maintenance costs were taken into consideration, steam stripping was more economically viable at the higher flow rates (up to 25 GPM) expected for the wastewater. This paper presents the results of the technology evaluations, pilot studies, economic evaluations of each technology, and details of the full-scale steam stripper as constructed.", pages = "268-289", url = "http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/wef/wefproc/2002/00002002/00000015/art00019", doi = "doi:10.2175/193864702784247396" }
