Abstract:

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) retained the RUST/HARZA project team to inspect the mainline storage tunnels that comprise the Inline Storage System (ISS). Issues of specific concern to the MMSD were the structural integrity of the tunnel rock envelope, the structural integrity of the concrete lining within the facility, locations and rates of groundwater infiltration, and sources and quantities of dry-weather flows that might be contributing to the flows handled by the ISS. This paper discusses the inspection project and its findings, and it provides recommendations for improvements to the ISS.
