Abstract:

Anaerobic digestion is a commonly used technology throughout the world. It is probably the most common way of reducing quantities of sludge and stabilizing sludge to biosolids. This paper focuses on the practices and costs in the United Kingdom (UK) and North America. Practices are in a state of flux, primarily due to recent regulations and newer approaches, so this represents a snapshot of where we are in 2002. It shows areas of similarity and some surprising areas of differences.
