This paper presents a common nomenclature for structural stormwater best management practices (BMPs) and discusses several general elements for consideration in evaluating BMP pollutant removal effectiveness in the context of total maximum daily load (TMDL) assessments for urban and suburban watersheds. In addition, the results and utility of the Center for Watershed Protection's BMP pollutant removal database are presented and reviewed.
