IS SPECIALIZATION REALLY DEAD?
Abstract:In today's challenging work environment, where everyone is trying to “think out of the box”, “break out of a silo”, “re-engineer”, “cross-train”, “become empowered”…, is there still a place for specialization and division of work tasks along traditional lines? In Orlando, Operators are still operating the facilities. Mechanics, Electricians and Instrument Technicians are still maintaining equipment. Laboratory personnel are still performing process and effluent parameter testing. Specialization along traditional lines has proven to be an effective and efficient way to structure and deploy the work force. Our management group believes that assigning well-trained individuals to perform specific tasks enhances accountability and assures the work gets done correctly.
