Abstract:

This paper describes the Alexandria, Virginia, Sanitation Authority's (ASA) experience using teams to start-up new unit processes. The purpose of utilizing teams is to give the plant staff proper training and tools needed to succeed in operating and maintaining new treatment processes. To date, ultraviolet disinfection; tertiary settling enhanced with lamella plates; facility heating, ventilation and air conditioning; and a completely new preliminary treatment process train have been started up using a team concept.
