Abstract:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) have partnered to promote the highway use of compost for erosion control. Our work has included development of DOT specifications; conducting numerous demonstration projects and workshops for DOT district offices, contractors and municipal personnel; gathering data on the performance of compost versus standard erosion control methods, quantities of compost used, and application methods; and identifying areas where compost use is not effective.
