In addition to these expenditures and improvement in treatment performance, the Department of Public works (DPW) of the City/Parish has worked to address nuisance issues such as trickling filter snail infestation and to optimize treatment during drought conditions that have persisted since 1998 in South Louisiana. So, in June 1999, Louisiana State University (LSU) began research with DPW to examine the historical and current performance of CTP and STP, and work towards solutions for specific wastewater treatment issues, including snail infestation, re-circulation modification and particulate removal in final clarifiers. To date, statistical results indicate that snails do not have significant adverse impact on the treatment performance, and the modification of tricking filter re-circulation helps improve treatment performance and operational stability compared to the practice of only periodic trickling filter flushing.", pages = "376-391", url = "http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/wef/wefproc/2001/00002001/00000016/art00027" }
