Abstract:

The study reported in this paper was commissioned by the City of Calgary after it was noted that the Plant B final clarifiers were performing poorly, following a retrofit of the Plant B bioreactors to a nitrifying biological phosphorus removal process incorporating a fine bubble aeration system. The poor clarifier performance related to unacceptably high Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Total Phosphorus (Total P) concentrations in the clarifier effluent when the bioreactors were subjected to design flow and loadings.
