Abstract:

The process of selecting, contracting and installing community wastewater systems will be presented for an existing community with straight piping to the local river and for a new subdivision being developed. The various options considered will be presented along with the final designs constructed to serve the communities. Both designs utilized Puraflo® peat biofilters. The Letcher County, Kentucky facility utilizes disinfection with direct discharge to the local river, while the Elk River, Minnesota community employs subsurface drip technology.
