This paper discusses how the Sanitary District of Hammond has increased its hydraulic and loading capacities by operating its activated sludge facility using a modification of the Kraus process (patent pending). The added benefit of improved nutrient removal from this unique approach,
the costs in implementing this process, and the role of process automation are also discussed.
