Abstract:Similar to most states, Wisconsin regulates the discharge of wastewater through a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System discharge permit and review of treatment plant designs. This paper will address some of the key parameters of concern in wastewater permits for the dairy facilities discharging to surface waters. The primary focus will be on chloride and phosphorus. Additionally, design considerations for wastewater treatment plants will be discussed.
