THE POLITICS OF BIOSOLIDS: “A CALL TO ACTION – AN INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVE
Beneficial use and disposal of biosolids is controversial by the very nature of the material. Couple that with the public's low tolerance for risk, an obsession with cleanliness and food safety, and a disconnect between the public and the infrastructures that serve it, and we have an environment that is ripe for controversy. With controversy comes political action. This paper identifies some of the root causes of political controversy surrounding biosolids beneficial use and details how one biosolids company, N-Viro, deals with these issues.
