Abstract:

California wastewater agencies use a wide variety of biosolids processing options. This includes significant use of low-technology processing options including storage and air drying systems. This paper quantifies use of these technologies in California and provides estimates that show between 15 and 25 percent of the state's biosolids production occurs with the use of these lowtechnology approaches. Despite the area requirements for these processes, many agencies continue to use them because they help keep agency costs to a minimum.
