Michigan's Agricultural Environmental Assurance and Right-to-Farm Programs
Abstract:The Michigan Department of Agriculture's (MDA) Right to Farm (RTF) Environmental Complaint Response Program addressed a total of 100 new farmrelated environmental and nuisance complaints during Fiscal Year 1999 (FY99). A total of 115 complaints were addressed during the same period in FY98. Similar to previous years, a majority of the new complaints in FY98 concerned manure management practices at livestock and poultry facilities. Therefore, the Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices (GAAMPs) for Manure Management and Utilization, developed pursuant to the Michigan Right to Farm Act, were used extensively during the investigation and resolution process for most of these complaints.
