Abstract:

The establishment of an anaerobic zone in the vicinity of the injection well is critical for successful applications of anaerobic bioventing. The finite element code FEHM is used to simulate diffusive and convective transport of a binary gas mixture in dry porous media. A two dimensional (2mX1.1m) pilot scale experimental setup is used to collect experimental data of oxygen levels. Experiments and simulations are performed for open and closed outflow boundaries and periodic off and on operations with close agreement.
