LAS is the most important and representative surfactants. Chlorine oxidants are also used very widely in many fields. Therefore LAS meets the chlorine oxidants very frequently not only in the processes but also in the paths from the sewage to the rivers. It is fully imagined that the harmful substances like DBPs are formed when LAS reacts with free chlorine. THMs are the major components of DBPs that are formed by reactions of organic substances with the chlorine oxidants. Among them, chloroform is the most noteworthy material. Since the meaningful behavior observed was the formation of chloroform when LAS reacts with free chlorine, the models were developed to grasp the tendency of chloroform formation depending on condition. According to these models, the effect of pH on the formation of chloroform is most grave.
