Developing an Integrated Approach to Managing Urban Watersheds
The Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District administers active programs for control of combined sewer overflows separate storm sewer systems and sanitary sewer overflows. These programs have been combined under common management and reporting. The combined programs will allow decisions to be made on a watershed basis. As part of the combined program MSD is developing a water quality tool to assist in developing priorities for construction projects and other management programs based on their water quality benefits. This paper outlines the efforts to combine the programs and the anticipated development of the water quality tool.
