FULL SCALE RESULTS FROM REFINERY AND SLAUGHTER HOUSE WASTEWATER IN MOVING BED BIOFILM REACTOR
Abstract:Following successful pilot test studies, which generated full scale design data, two Kaldnes moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) treatment plants were commissioned during 1999. The MBBR systems are incorporated into each facility as pre-treatment reactors ahead of the existing activated sludge processes on site. The combination of the MBBR & activated sludge system at the Phillips refinery showed complete nitrification after just 6 weeks of operation and effluent turbidities from the secondary clarifiers being reduced by over 50%. Performance at the Valley Pride Pack facility showed effluent discharges from the facility increased 300% over the first year of operation with the combination of the MBBR & activated sludge processes.
