Anne Arundel County, Maryland is located in the scenic and historic Northern Chesapeake Bay Area, and provides sanitary sewer service to over 450,000 citizens through the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utilities. The Department of Public Works also includes the Bureaus of Highways and Parks, Waste Management, Engineering, Finance, and Administration.

The County is currently implementing an ambitious program that will integrate a recent color digital orthophoto land base with its existing ArcInfo GIS System and its multi- Bureau Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The integrated ‘Countyview’ System is allowing the County to manage its infrastructure with the aid of the following system capabilities:

Central repository utilizing an Oracle database for managing all infrastructure assets

Centralized database for all infrastructure project status reporting

Geographic search capabilities utilizing an efficient Map Objects programming environment to identify:

Where infrastructure work has taken place or is scheduled to take place

Where work requests are located by address

Maps of any infrastructure maintenance or work history data such as locations of major failures or complaints

Color coded map displays for various classifications of work activities, types of failures, or determined causes.

‘Point and click’ access to the following attribute or other data from the GIS including:

Maintenance history data for individual structures or groups of structures

Maintenance cost data for structures or activity classifications within a selected geographic area

As-built construction drawings

Geo-referenced raster maps of planimetric data.

‘Early’ access to system data by both heavy and ‘casual’ users utilizing geocoded street centerline data prior to completion of the entire GIS graphic database.
