Abstract:

This paper presents new and fast procedures for calculating magnetic forces between thin circular coaxial coils in air. The results, obtained analytically, are expressed in terms of the complete elliptical integrals of the first and second kind and Heuman's Lambda function. These new expressions described are accurate and simple to apply for several practical applications. Another comparative method based on the filament method is also described here. This paper discusses the computational cost and the accuracy of the magnetic force obtained by two methods. Results obtained by the two approaches examined are in excellent agreement with each other.
