Abstract:

The heating of a half-space filled with conducting medium, by propagating electromagnetic wave beam, is considered when the inner and outer thermal reservoirs are present. An expression for the medium temperature is obtained for an arbitrary beam cross-section shape. Asymptotic formulas for the temperature at distances much longer than the beam width and field penetration depth, have been derived. The temperature in the beam center on the specimen surface is determined. Under the same conditions, the heating of a parallel-sided plate is investigated.
