Abstract:

In this letter, we present an exact closed-form solution for the probability distribution of the packet batch-size at the output ports of unbuffered crossbar based packet switches. The general case of a switch with M inputs and N outputs is considered under balanced traffic and using an optimum arbitration scheme. The solution can be applied to a wide range of queuing systems, even beyond the field of packet switching.
