Abstract:

The focal switch of flattened Gaussian beams (FGBs) passing through an unapertured bifocal lens system is studied. Detailed numerical results are given. It is found that for the unapertured case by an appropriate choice of the optical system and beam parameters, the focal switch can take place. The physical analysis of the focal switch in the bifocal lens system is made. The focal switch of Gaussian beams is regarded as a special case treated here.
