Based on the ABCD matrix formalism, it is shown that by introducing two thin lenses and/or two Gaussian apertures with appropriate geometric parameters into the input and output planes of a general complex ABCD system, the resulting system can be expressed in terms of the complex-order Fourier transform. Detailed analytical results are given and confirmed with illustrative examples.
