Diffraction of X-pulses at plane apertures
X-pulses propagate in free space without distortion but what happens to their structure when they diffract through apertures? To investigate this question, we first generalize to arbitrary time-dependent pulses a Fredholm-like integral equation previously developed to analyse the diffraction of scalar harmonic fields by planar apertures. Then, we give the general form of diffracted X-pulses by such apertures. Finally, the diffraction of X-pulses by circular apertures is thoroughly discussed.
