Modelling and characterization of optical high frequency gratings

Abstract: The progress of modern structuring technologies allows the realization of optical high frequency gratings even for visible wavelengths. The specific effects such as high diffraction efficiencies, polarization dependent diffraction or the possibility of artificial dielectric material properties become therefore available for applications in new micro optical systems. Considering a multi parameter approach it is shown how to optimise the performance of such grating structures. The necessity of considering the conditions of non-idealized arrangements is discussed and illustrated with examples.
