Fabry-Perot interferometer with a quarter-wave retarder and an intermediate optical exit for displacement-measurements
Fabry-Perot type interferometers (FPI) are simple and contain few components so that the cost of production is expected to be low and the realization might be possible with integrated optics or micro-optics. This paper describes a modified strongly attenuated FPI for accurate displacement measurement with the detection of the direction. In our setup one mirror can be shifted several 10cm. A quarter-wave retarder and beamsplitter are placed in the FP-cavity. A lens with short focal length followed by a beamsplitter, two analyzers under a mutual orientation of 45° act as the detector system. It is shown that the presented setup leads to good experimental results so that it is well suited for the above mentioned purposes.
