Background: Cyclophotocoagulation is the latest development in so-called cyclodestructive procedures. These represent one possibility to reduce the intraocular pressure in glaucoma therapy. Serious complications like pop-effects and hypotonia or phthisis have restricted the clinical use to glaucomatous eyes after failed filtering surgery and insufficient topical therapy even if the contact method and the location of the ciliary body have shown to reduce complications to a certain extent.

Conclusion: Controlled cyclophotocoagulation optimises supply energy and reduces complications after treatment with good pressure reduction.
