N2 - A 29-d laboratory experiment on the development of the mullet Mugil liza was performed based on induced spawning hypophysation with chorionic gonadotropin of mammals. The first yolk-sac larvae hatched 46.5 h after fertilization, measuring in average 2.55 mm (TL). At the end of
the experiment, larvae reached a length of 6.21 mm with all fins individualized. The number of spines and rays on anal fins was the main characteristic that distinguished M. liza from Mugil cephalus and Mugil curema.
