Abundantly occurring organelles like clouds of mitochondria, extended ER cisternae, large vesicles and several structures of unknown nature, imply high biosynthetic activity, thus contradicting the view that the cytophores' most important function is synchronization of gamete development and uptake of superflous spermatid cytoplasm. The cytophores are highly species-specific, regarding structure and arrangement of organelles.", }
