Aspects of Marsupial and Post-Marsupial Development of Hyale Media (dana) 1853 (Hyalidae, Amphipoda)
Abstract:We describe the marsupial and post-marsupial development of Hyale media (Dana) 1853, living on Sargassum sp. of Ubatuba, Brazil (23°30'S–45°06'W). The marsupial period is divided into 4 developmental stages whereas in the post-marsupial period 13 growth stages for males and 9 for females are recognized. The growth stages are described based on the head length, increase of antennal article number, morphological alterations of male gnathopod two and alterations in the setation of the gnathopod two and pereopods. The life cycle of H. media has been classified according to sexual maturity.
