Notes on the marine algae of Puerto Rico. III. Branchioglossum pseudoprostratum new species and B. prostratum Schneider (Rhodophyta: Delesseriaceae)
Branchioglossum pseudoprostratum new species is described from collections made at 50 to 60 m off the southwest coast of Puerto Rico. Its distinctive features include branch formation by a random marginal cell, usually remote from the apex of the parent blade, and the fact that
not all cells of second-order rows bear third-order rows. A second species, B. prostratum Schneider, previously known from North Carolina and Florida, is also reported from Puerto Rico.
